This year, Wachusetts very own Terrance Fencher, known for his creative pipe cleaner creatures, is graduating. Terrance is a post grad who has been in the life skills program here for five years. He has been creating these creatures since he was five, each with their own unique features, and personalities.
“I get inspiration from my imagination and movies,” Says Fencher.
Through his time at Wachusett, Terrance has been positively impacting students and staff around him. His teachers and classmates look forward to seeing a new creature from Terrace each day. According to his teacher Mrs. Donavan, Fencher’s creations have become a daily tradition, and a daily anticipation.
“I love as soon as he walks into the classroom every single day, how different and unique they are every day. A lot of the time they match his outfit. They blow me away each day. They each have such big personalities,” Donavan said.
According to Donovan, Terrance has a new creature to show her every day. Each creature is always different from the last, with both the details and personality.
“I’ve known Terrance for three years, every day is a new creature. That’s 540 different creatures,” said Donovan.
While interviewing Terrence, he had his creature of the day, which was a gorilla inspired from a game that he enjoys. The creature had various details differentiating it from all the others. He was a boy with red arms, and a yellow back, with fangs and claws. This is just one example of the hundreds of creatures that Terrance has made just in the past few years.
John Brewer, Terraces best friend, also enjoys seeing what he creates each day, and has been a good friend and supporter of Terrance and his artwork.
“I like to talk with Terrance. My favorite part is seeing his creatures,” Brewer said.
When asked what he wanted people to know about his creatures, Fencher said, “My talent, and what it can do.”
Terrance’s influence spreads farther than just the Regional, he had an internship at the ECC where he taught kids to create their own pieces of artwork. He also has a Youtube channel where he creates tutorials, and is working on a series. With both the kids and the viewers, Terrance has shown kindness and patience when teaching.
“He is very patient and detailed with the kids. He is also like this for his Youtube videos, he makes tutorials and is very patient,” said Donovan.
At 21, Terrence is the oldest member of the program at Wachusett. He is admired by his teachers and will certainly be missed.
“He is such an artistic creative student and what comes from his imagination is so fascinating and cool to see. He is such a pleasure to work with and has such a calm and cool demeanor. He is so liked in the classroom,” says Donovan.
After graduating, Terrance plans to attend a day program in Worcester and to make more Youtube videos. He also plans to continue his passion to create his creatures.
“I love the design I make for them. Some of them I don’t like sometimes, but I fix them and make them look better,” said Fencher. He particularly enjoys creating distinctive personalities for them.
His legacy of bringing something positive and fun to the classroom every day will live on as he inspires both his classmates and teachers in his final few months at Wachusett. Everyone who knows him will miss him very much, but he will continue on to do great things and touch more lives with his creative and imaginative artwork.
