On November 22nd, the Asian Student Association held their third annual Food Tasting Night. The night was filled with amazing Asian cuisine, games, and music.
“We wanted to make sure that we have a community at Wachusett and that we don’t go unnoticed,” said ASA club president, senior Dylan Chiem.
The ASA club started three years ago, when former students thought it would be nice to have a place to celebrate Asian culture and asked Math Teacher Brady Townsend to become their advisor.
“When they asked me to be their advisor, I was honored,” said Townsend. “They always come up with fun and delicious events.”
The club starts working on their food tasting event in September, and the members all decide which food they are going to bring.
The food tasting shared foods from many different countries including China, India, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
Freshman Violet Prouix shared positive feedback on the coffee she tried from the country of Vietnam.
“It’s not too sweet but very tasty. It tastes a lot like vanilla,” said Prouix.
The food tasting event didn’t just have food, it also featured Asian games, such as Ping Pong, which was set up near the auditorium, and had long lines as groups of students waited to play.
“We underestimated how many people were going to buy tickets at the door,” said senior Abigail Lei, who is the club’s secretary. “We are very grateful for the turnout.”
Wachusett ASA’s food tasting is also well known around central Massachusetts, with many other schools showing up to try the food and get a taste of the local Asian community.
“We are so thankful for everyone who came out to try our food and learn about a different culture,” said Chiem.
The club plans to do a Lunar New Year celebration on Friday, February 7th. It will include food and festivities, as well as a dragon dance.
