Mountaineers Make Miracles, established by Juniors Morgan Barrett and Sophia Krikonis, had its debut meeting on September 17th of this school year.
The club was made to help those in need, specifically individuals staying in local hospitals long-term.
“We feel that these people need kindness and compassion most as they face the bleak realities of illness,” said Barrett.
Club members have participated in various activities this year and have made plans for future events.
Club member Hannah Young said, “This is the club’s first year, so I have not been a part of many events yet, but I have enjoyed carving pumpkins which we did last meeting.”
“Recently, we carved pumpkins for Why Me Sherry’s House and have begun to raise funds for activities in the future,” said club advisor Lorraine Jewell.
The club has a variety of goals that connect the Wachusett Regional community and beyond.
“Our goal while doing this is to spread awareness in our community, bringing it closer together,” Jewell explained.
Members were encouraged to volunteer at the Craft Fair held by the Booster Club this year, where Mountaineers Make Miracles sold Mac & Cheese to raise money for care baskets for individuals in hospitals.
The club itself is powered by the determination and efforts of the club members.
“We use whatever resources and networking abilities we can to encourage success, but the members do all the planning and prep work,” club advisor Rebekka White described.
Founders of the club brought their personal experiences to the table to raise support for people with long term illness.
“We based our idea for the club on personal experiences with illnesses in a hospital environment, thinking of what could make that experience better and less daunting for people,” Krikonis expressed.
Mountaineers Make Miracles hopes to succeed in their efforts this school year and in the future, reaching individuals to give them some light in the face of daunting darkness.
