The girls’ varsity basketball team not only upheld their status as a strong Division One team this season, maintaining a strong record despite intense competition from other teams, but they went on to become the first Wachusett girls’ basketball team to bring home the banner.
“The Wachusett girls basketball program has been one of the most successful Division One programs in the state,” said athletic director Jennifer Lynch. “We have high expectations for the program, particularly after going undefeated during the regular season four times in the past five years.”
Reflecting on the team’s dedication and high spirit, junior Olivia Goulet shared her enthusiasm and admiration for the girls’ performance throughout the season. “I went to a lot of the games this year and the girls are amazing, and it’s so fun to watch,” said Goulet. “I think the girls really give it their all every game and play their hardest.”

Highlighting the team’s chemistry and their individual talents, senior Chloe Lamburn emphasized the importance of how their connection contributes to success.
“The girls were very successful this season and they all work really well together. But they are also great as individual players also,” said Lamburn. “That is what makes them so good. They really all connect and communicate with each other to succeed.”
“We have two freshmen on our team and I am team captain so it is a very big role teaching and being a role model and you have to be a good leader,” said junior Sophie Gibbons.
“Rebuilding the connection from last year was hard at first. But we are very close for only knowing each other for a short time, and we do a lot of team bonding and we love what we do,” said Gibbons.
As the team moved forward without their graduated seniors, the players embraced their roles and took charge with their refreshed roster.

Junior Ava Macone stated, “I went to some games and the girls this year were really good and were trying really hard and gave a lot of effort.”
Despite the graduating seniors, the girls began the season with a team filled with enthusiasm and a strong connection to the game of basketball.
Sophomore Owen Brugman also shared his thoughts, stating, “I went to a few games this year and all the girls are very talented and really played a good game.”
Junior Evan Yi added, “I’ve never really been to any of the games, but I believe the girls definitely don’t get enough credit for their work.”
Without a doubt, the Wachusett girls basketball team showed hard work, commitment, and a strong sense of teamwork this season. Taking home the State Champion title this year, the Wachusett Girls Basketball team has proven to be a strong and dedicated group of girls.
Gibbons proclaims, “The State Championship win against Bishop Feehan was one that meant a lot to us as a team, and me as a Captain.”
Her words represent the pride of the whole team, “There had never been a basketball team to put a D1 State Championship banner in that building, and that had been my dream since I stepped into that gym. I am extremely grateful and proud to be a part of this program.”
The Wachusett Community looks forward to the achievements the team makes from here on.
