One of the most anticipated town-wide events held annually in Holden, Massachusetts is the fall craft fair held at Mayo Elementary, one of the four elementary schools in the town. Funds raised through the Mayo Craft Fair are donated directly to the Mayo Elementary School PTA to support classroom enrichment programs throughout the school year.
This year, the craft fair was held in the school’s gymnasium on Saturday, October 4th, and over 50 vendors applied to sell. On that day, they also celebrated the event’s 43rd anniversary.
On the morning of, vendors arrived at 7:00, and were able to set up booths until it was opened to the public at 9:00 am. Vendors were treated to bagels, supplied by The Bagel Inn in Holden, and later in the day, pizza from Holden Pizza.
Additionally, stores such as the Big Y and Market 32 donated gift cards to help out with the fund raising, and volunteers of all ages signed up to help set up for the event. Many people including teachers, parents, grandparents, and students came to show support.
There was lots to do at the craft fair itself. Besides shopping at the countless booths, visitors were able to enter a raffle that included many pieces from the vendors. There were also many opportunities to get a variety of different foods from food vendors.
Wachusett freshman Madison Auty said, “It was great being able to see everything that people were selling, and there were great snacks like waffles and cookies being sold.”
Many vendors at this event reported that the craft fair is a great way to get your business’s name out there. Many students and younger audiences attend, making social media activity common and giving local small businesses some much appreciated online attention.
Returning vendors at the craft fair reported that this is an amazing event that has been around for a while. They enjoy the craft fair because of the social interactions between members of the community, new people, and other fellow vendors.
